Project Description
Wollondilly Shire Council – Picton NSW
Dezign collaborated with Wollondilly Shire Council to revitalize a local heritage building based on the design completed by Stephen Pearse Architects transforming it into the focal point of the new Picton masterplan. Through close coordination with council, Dezign successfully executed the building extension and refurbishment to integrate the building into the community’s spatial plan.
The renovated structure, including its west wing, now hosts the council chamber, meeting room, and public gallery, seamlessly woven into the overall masterplan for communal use. This holistic campus-wide approach enables the booking and utilization of spaces for diverse activities such as theatre performances, weddings, meetings, dance, music events, and art displays.
The new building, constructed with brick and corrugated iron, pays homage to the town’s heritage in form and texture, as well as the historic Wollondilly Shire Hall. It skillfully reinterprets Flemish bond brickwork and Menangle Street’s main facade details, introducing a contemporary twist with a combination of colours and patterns on the new face overlooking the park.
