Project Description

The Sebel Melbourne Flinders Lane

Accor Vacation Club engaged Dezign to deliver a major refurbishment of The Sebel Melbourne Flinders Lane, one of Melbourne’s most recognisable boutique hotels. The 60-suite inner-city property underwent a full upgrade of guest rooms, lobby and public areas, completed under a compressed four-month programme while the hotel remained operational.

The design direction followed a contemporary urban chic aesthetic. Suites were elevated with lighter beige and tan tones in the living areas and deeper charcoal and grey finishes in the bathrooms. Each room was upgraded with venetian wall finishes, bespoke flooring, new furniture, lighting and décor, together with a full renewal of bathroom fixtures to meet modern guest expectations for comfort and style.

On the ground floor, Dezign replanned the reception and guest lounge to create a more generous and welcoming arrival. Marble flooring, venetian plaster, pressed metal ceilings, new artwork and soft furnishings were introduced, with an electric fireplace anchoring the lounge and enhancing the sense of warmth and character.

Working within a heritage building in Melbourne’s CBD required careful staging of structural modifications, fire and services upgrades and the full internal fitout. Dezign’s integrated methodology, combining design, pre-construction, construction and procurement, allowed the team to coordinate these works with minimal disruption to hotel operations.

Sustainability was also a key consideration. High-quality pre-loved furniture was donated to local charities, extending the life of existing pieces and avoiding unnecessary waste to landfill.

The completed project repositions The Sebel Melbourne Flinders Lane as a refined, design-led boutique destination for Accor Vacation Club members and guests, with upgraded suites, enhanced public spaces and a clearly defined inner-city retreat experience.
