Project Description

Novotel Sydney City Centre

The former 283 room Mercure Sydney Wynyard on York Street in the heart of the Sydney CBD, has been reimagined as the Novotel Sydney City Centre.

Dezign were engaged by Salter Brothers for the interior design and FFE Procurement of this $20 million refurbishment. We worked closely with Accor to bring to life the first Novotel ‘Hypothesis’ brand in Australia, a brand with an ethos on minimizing waste – not only environmentally but also in terms of reducing waste of space and time.

With an earthy colour palette and highly detailed bespoke joinery and FFE the rooms and public areas present a calm and contemporary design aesthetic. All finishes were chosen with longevity in mind – the use of sold timber coupled with bespoke steel bases facilitates a 2D life for elements which typically end up in landfill.

Leatherette upholstery cladding to the bedheads, wardrobes and minibars provide a tactile yet durable finish to these key FFE items. The custom carpets are locally produced, reducing transport emissions, and meeting the tight project programme. Furthermore, at the end of its life the carpet can be recycled by the manufacturer into the backing for carpet tiles, eliminating waste.

Coupled with a well-situated location in the busy, central Sydney CBD with easy access to Barangaroo, Circular Quay and George Street Shopping, the hotel has been a hit with guests since opening.
